As form dissolves at seasons end and the hidden nature of the plant revealed, beauty is seen in a clearer guise. No need for adornment of bloom and fruit now, with the inner revealment of what always resided there.

Something lingering as a beneficiant wraith, traces of voices long since departed and the pared essence is all that remains. Endings are just burgeoning beginings if we see beyond the perceived loss.
I gaze out beyond these hills within my view, something is adrift in vernal air, mist-laden and spectral wanderings amongst lifted leaves, air stilled and cosseted by the eddying smoke from gathered fires. Here in that delicacy of gauzy light where all the world is muted hues and scented decay of summer, here is the perfected moment for Ghostflower by Altra Profuture. I first encountered Altra at Pitti Fragranze in September 2022 and was not only curious about a few of their collection but also to learn of their personal ethics. Ghostflower was released in 2022 and perfumeur is Beckielou Brown.

Ghostflower is a slightly chilled wind that wraps itself around you upon entering an ancient place that has lain undisturbed, a familiar sensation as if one has stumbled upon memories from lifetimes past, it carries within its scented wisps, the clamour and carcophony of spent summers, washed water colours and the bared meadow strains, stems rustling in atrophied state with a melancholic melody. A scent of conjured ancestors answering the call to pass momentarily in an invoked sanctuary.
No deep sadness here just a key in the lock of knowing, a comprehension of something past but still a presence. Should I walk, soft tread in timbered halls and stone enclaves, Ghostflower is the mantle about my shoulders. Whispered longings of another time as velvet folds caress flagged stones in a hushed sweep. Here is the rise and fall of silent intonations, layers of moments spent . It is a memory scent, a perfume of presence, invoking past, present and future.

A singular, vivid and narcotic white lily illuminates the presence, it is so richly wrought as to give pause, arrested by its intensity. Instantly transported, it is the olfactive imprint on a retinal canvas, a rapture encapsulated, how appropriate then to find myself within timeless walls. Ghostflower is the miasma of a lingering perfection saturated in the etched stone, in these musty confines amidst guttered candles, bouquets, long forgotten array of lilies in parchment fragility, yet enveloped by the vapours of their zenith. a breathing immortality in it’s essence. Enfolded in incense traces and the softened wisps of smoke from barely heated ashes, here is a scent-soul liberated from earth bound form, it fills the spaces in- between with a soaring magnificence of promise, that all fades to be renewed. The flowers may be faded in field and vase, but here is the seasons merging, autumnal promise of future fecundity held in the summers breath.

Ghostflower by Altra is a consummate requiem for a flower, a resounding liturgy of beauty that changes with time yet remains constant. A perfect exhalation of summer, embraced by the still certainity of autumn. As I walk through stubbled fields, enrobed in mists and with the company of disrobed branches overhead, it is the accompaniment to my welcoming for the coming repose and my salute to the spent glories of summer, certain in the knowledge of truimphant return.

There were three others of the collection that spoke to me - further explorations required.
Stone Cold Heart - Verdant, mossy, oaky, ancient trees and overgrown stones, ruins seeped in stories. A deeply darkened sensual viscosity. Seductive and piercing all in the same moment.
Altra Skin - A transparency in totality, ethereal and veiled, it resides comfortably on skin, melding with flesh as if its thirsting was assuaged, yet also beautiful layered with others of the Altra Collection.
Dualist - a mimosa love for me, yet so curious its in its deeply verdant heart with a effusive mimosa and a limpid lightness of being that will entice as Spring approaches or in the depths of winter, at Yuletide when the promise of light returns, that watery promise of renewed luminosity.
