‘Always I am urged to go beyond, to explore, to extend and experience, because to not is worse than to actually do it. Although it requires Courage, to turn away is unthinkable. I am, as recently told, a strange, peculiar, singularly unique kind of Writer, for I am my own Muse: driven and poetical, breath-haunted, whispered to in veiled offerings’.

Devoted to Beauty and its re ignition in this world that so often is so far beyond aesthetic tenure.  I write of Perfume because I must, tendrils that find their way to me, driven to put unspoken threads to a thousand written forms.   In a world of modern communication and the growing plethora of video and written reviews, I hold my ground, steadfast to the words that evolve from the Perfume, in an eclectic mix that is true to the noble art of writing, with no advertisements and free of marketing hype. Old-fashioned perhaps but true and simply clear to all I hold dear.

 ‘Ode r’ is a platform for my free expression of all in Perfume and other matters that touches me with Beauty, our essential nourishment.

I have spent my life full of travel and children, yet always through all, the scents of life in its myriad facets held me close. As an organic winemaker I interpreted the essence of the vine, utilising senses that are underused in this age, those of scent and taste, my nose and palate, my tools.

Evolving as a Perfume writer was a natural progression and when the time was right, with thanks to the Editorial team at Cafleurebon, I joined that unique group of people whose words make scent /sense travel far and wide, to whom I am very grateful.  I have spent the last few years writing for Cafleurebon as a Senior Contributor and now it is time to be open to extend my writing and reflect my passions, self-directed as all good Captains should be.

‘To write thoughts in Perfume is to traverse the senses, it is undertaken by rare individuals.  Perfume is a portal to hidden inner worlds of memory, delight and exploration’.  

My life as a writer has given me access to these incredible creators, those who capture the very essence of life, their friendship and trust are valuable beyond measure. I am enticed by the avant-garde, by the edge, I want to be taken by a Perfume to an unknown destination, discovering on its trajectory glimpses of the component’s hidden parts, extending my perceptions of what a perfume is and can be. Swept along its curves, in a mutual journey. These are the Perfumes I write.

The fragrance of substances is written in the verses of their innate language, which speaks to the emotions. When I write I am part of a grander cycle, The Perfumer is inspired by a ‘fulgarance’ as the Muse strikes, he translates this ethereal creativity into liquid form, I place the perfume on my skin, an alchemical transformation occurs and I am inspired by my emotion to write the liquid into form of words.

So, from my world here in Southern France, I offer my words to you inspired by a rare and precious band of creators/perfumers, if you read them and it touches the deep parts of you, and ignites in you the curiosity to discover more, I am happy. If it does not, then still I thank you for reading my words and may you see Beauty in all its Truth every moment of every day.
