The creations of this humble man imbibed with a higher force always shine out to me as beacons of authenticity in a sphere that is rapidly becoming overcrowded by the middle ground.

Filippo Sorcinelli created Quando_ rapita _ In _ estasi in 2019, my first impressions were electrifying and the notes I took at that time will be the founding axis for this text. My words flew out of the pen in an unstoppable surge. How appropriate for this perfume that evolved from the famous madness scene of Lucia di Dammermoor, the opera by Gaetano Donizetti, immortalized by the supreme Maria Callas.

Always etched into the liquidity the soft spoken, silent footfall of Filippo.

There are parallels here within the wearing of perfume itself, it emanates from the flesh, is placed in intimacy with skin and the wearer is liberated, to travel its maps and courses in a silent, secret interchange, to experience the myriad emotions that the alchemy of perfume on flesh may unleash. All of this on the private stage of interior life, sometimes springing forth, as an emotion unleashed. Experiencing the rollercoaster and innerly exploring the edges. Perfume always gifts the wearer freedoms to feel intensely.

So it is here, upon the theatrical stage in the company of Maria Callas, a journey within the portrayal of Lucia that allows an alter ego to reign. The power exhibited onstage a pendulum swing from the reality of the emotional life of the Diva herself.

Quando _ rapita _ In _ estasi is a raw exposition from the moment it catches sight of flesh, it is a releasing as if the molecules upon contact let loose a sigh, a silent venting in smoky exhalations, something which has been overly withheld in a suffocation, veins at bursting point. Resinous and woody it yields to a cloven (of cloves and also to be cleaved) heart, tender and exposed.

Intoxicating and transfixing the recipients, the wearer, the clothed, we the audience to the revealing on skin are riveted to our seats under the enchantment that grips us in terror at its shattering of the boundaries, tettering on the edge, leaving us breathless at the beauty of unimpeded emotions, overflowing with truth. This truth that glares right through us from the eyes of madness. It is the journey from the dangers of love in its most ravaged tatters to a self-acquiesced reclusiveness.

The stage presence of this perfume is lucid and inviolate, yet portrays a vulnerability in its tender heart, chafed by life’s encounters. Walking the tightrope that must be crossed, the venting that must pour forth, at times the clumsy, wavering, staggering fool, at others the adept, perfectly balanced performer always with the tender, skin-exposed fragility just under the surface.

Yet the traverse must be made for in its crossing we are reformed, in allowing the madness breath. For in Quando _ rapita _ in _ estasi there resides the fragrancy of this illuminated reason, the utter madness of exstasis, the beauty in the raving, always sought by those who covet the mysteries and a closeness to the Gods.

The path of power and danger, entangled in this creation, power of the force of emotions unleashed and danger in rendering oneself vulnerable in such openness. The composition of this perfume is all this and more, it rises on pure, unadulterated wings of madness transmuted into ecstacy.

For the Feminine this has been a well worn path, how women have been and still are fettered by societal and cultural constraints. Often only those out beyond the fringes of the world, those labelled as ‘mad’ were able to give voice in a liberty, to rise on wings of their so called affliction to express their innermost desires and yearnings, to vocalise the untrodden path and to experience the way to the ecstatic. In the inner- most core of this perfume resides such a strength and a delicacy, the truth of human emotion in the sacred act of release.

Revered aromas of incenses and balms convey a rite of passage and are liberally strewn in the path of bare and bloodied feet, Labdanum and Patchouli bring a balm to the travelling soul.

Quando _ rapita _ in _ estasi is a proud and noble creation, imbued with a great courage and a tender humanity, it exposes and exalts ones inner wealth, at the same time heavenly and hellish, yet the juxtaposition is oh so necessary.
