Far Ones, I have been waiting for you with a breath of ageless blooming upon my lips, a longing to take your tender hand in my bony, gnarled touch, fear not for it will fill you with remembrances of newborn fingers curled upon your own, for all is not as it seems.
World weary travellers, turn a faded eye inwards, let words loosed from faded pages, envelop you, entwining and beckoning in hushed tones…….. come, come, for all is to be told.
A certain woman filled with a burning passion for perfumed creations and potions once lived in Poland and dreamed far off dreams of making scents to ferry us out beyond the confines, to voyage and discover and to ignite our most hidden depths. After finding herself in Barcelona the dream began to take on a form, cloaked to begin with yet still forming slowly, Agnieszka Lewandowska called into her inner circle those to give the immortal a mortal form and Le Frag was created. Now with four perfumes in the collection, I found myself more than a little possessed by two. Grimmtale and Meluzyna……
Let the unravelling commence……. the tale is to be told.

Fare thee well in thy travels bound in dusty yellowed pages for within resides all manner of dreams, desires and fears, in various guises and forms to bewitch, beguile, entrall and devour. Are we all Snow White or all Wicked Queen? Richly wrought and composed of all those fibres that excite and frighten us, it resides on skin like the promise of challenges overcome and the innate beauty of fantasy and imagination where all can be possible in any extreme……Grimmtale bursts upon us taking breath away with its wood laden airs, immediatly surrounding with a deep thicket of forested presence, its woody overtones embracing us entirely, a presence that surrounds with adventurous intent. A definitive yet cloaked sensation of the howling of winds in gnarled branches, the golden eyes of lurking danger upon you yet with a confidence draped upon your shoulders like a sorcerers cloak, fur-laden animalic protection, untouchable in the midst of the unknown.

Its well travelled paths wind and wend ever deeper in company of furred beasts, a scent of warm animalic skin rises up and ignites our fears and our intimacies, alighting on both. Castoreum, Civet and Leather prowl close at hand, a pelt of snug flesh and living fur, creamed sweat and foam, intimate and comforting, it is the tamed savagery that lies at our feet once we have dared to face it and shown no fear of its bared fangs. As the meandering slows and tale’s end is in sight, weary feet to rest upon a homely hearth, the final hushed paragraphs and ending of tales offer a haven, candles extingushed, spent spirals of smoke and wisps of hearty nourishment to content the traveller returned.
Grimmtale is the bright and soaring immortal journey within the dark places, for those of us who avoid safety and mediocrity and veer towards life in all its intensity. In Grimmtale resides the metaphor for encountering shadows and finding a light where one never existed, for battling demons armed with courage, fortitude and beauty, it fascinates me…..
Arming me better than any Knights attire, sword in hand, it is deeply complex and as alluring as any fairytale.

Ah, here is a tale that has followed me all my life, her story around, above and below me, deftly bought into a material form. A legend or veiled truth that has existed in one form or another for centuries. A fee, a fairy, an undine of sources and water courses, rivers and lakes, a touch of the sea even. An immortal who lived amongst us, a water spirit, for those who possess eyes that see, she may still even walk with us. In stone edifices she is carved, inscribed upon christian facades, the fee are always to be found in their old consecrated places. Haunted paintings and hushed verse, artists who were bewitched, with brushes and pens guided by her damp fingers.
Yet, like all the Fee she does not suffer the foolishness of men and will punish and vanish at will. Meluzyna drenchs in wetted stone and saturated mosses, deep wrung from rain and earth, forms dripping on a perfection of feminine form, alabaster translucence, an eternal being emerging from a river-run source at its merging with the sea. Seaweed entangled strands intermingled with darkest human hair, shapeshifter extraordinaire. No comely mermaid or devastating siren, Melusine is a deeper creature of otherworldly origins.

Rivulets run their course through her every vein, Meluzyna is awash with backnotes of water, a myriad faces rendering it entrancing, resounding with the lapping on riverbanks and sand shifting waves embrace, water is her very lifeblood. Bewitchment exudes at every turn, her eyes flash, silvery darting schools set in dark pupils, at once human and beguiling, all feminine then in a glimpse, ichthyic, deceiving our sight, lulling upon a lapping shoreline with a hypnotic gaze. Profuse fumes of resins and spices rise off her drying flesh, in transfomative convulsions, as watery form shifts, newly born feet leave no mark upon the sands and stones.
It is a journey made at times of her choosing and for time in human form. Time to grace our bound lives with her presence, a transcendent touch, the impossible made possible in the service of love. Meluzyna is in the echo of my heartbeat, in the heat of my humaness and the water that issues from elsewhere……. timeless and of the ages.
