Distilled Recollection Memory Lane - Christele Jacquemin 2021

In a wearied pouch.

promises, secrets, destinations....

dare to intrude into the silken folds

fingers brushed, caressed by tales

retrieved, from time,

cloth returned to light, unfurled as banner bright

in its opening, spilling spectrums and spectres

fragrances of lives, brocade of existences

cradled in the weft and warp of Memory

Memory lights us, gives meaning and fabric to who we are, weaves its strands around our living flesh, like ribbons of moments, garnered together to give us form. Christele Jacquemin gives us captured moments in a life, not only with her photography stories but with olfactory writings that release personal voyages in our innermost depths. A precious casket that holds all those significant minutiae that are written upon and within us. Her collection is based around memory and the distillation of its quintessence, no exception here as Memory Lane was inspired by photographs and memories of her home village of Valleguieres in southern France. Memory Lane released in 2021 is a perfection, inducing that state often known as daydreaming, wander into the library where we drift in between the pages of our private books, resting amongst the pages of our own experience. Mesmerising, it dances in swathes of gossamer proximity. Each leaf turned releasing reminiscences and nostalgia.

Josephine Cardin

A wistful warmth rises within the enfolding of spices into green vanilla, a deep singing into the bones of remembrance, familiar, tender and challenging. Sighs and smiles all revealed in moments, relived in unique vision. Memory Lane is a heartachingly beautiful eliciting of emotional threads, taut and plucked in bright ease, the comforting sense of home territory riven through with moments that have defined us. Memory becomes the finer web of white oud cloaked in a sublime, creamy magnolia haze surrounding the body like a second skin, sweet and bitter edges carrying us to familar haunts with each recollection. Intimate winds cross the plains of our life, awakening all those moments that have created us, as leaves dance upon trees.

Retreat into Memory, achingly nostalgic and with emotions enlivened once more, tears and laughter, joys and sadness, within the sanctuary of inviolable moments. One can be moved to tears by Memory Lane and its bittersweet invocation.

Evolving as time turns the page, lines blur and recollections spring forth with ‘saudade’, a yearning and longing for the memories evocation. Arising from a central meringue accord that deftly encompasses the entire creation, here is that dessert you loved as a small child, yet it is the sensation invoked within your chest, aching not for the dessert itself but the desire entirely for it……. Memory Lane is that longing, that pining for the sweet, lingering last mouthful.

It is a deeply personal experience, residing within and under the skin, echoing without constraint, myriad reminescences like blooms in the internal garden beds of our private estate.
