To All Unveil - Oliver Valverde Nebula Series #3 - 'Veil' 2019
Veil, was released by the Spanish Perfume House, Oliver Valverde, earlier this year, how fitting a beginning to this , ‘ode r’ my own platform for numerous writings on Perfume and Beauty in a disquiet world. An unveiling to the eyes and noses of a waiting world of Oliver’s ‘Veil’ at my own unveiling. It is my pleasure to be writing once again and to set trajectory, grateful to the guidance of others yet now with hands firmly at the wheel.
Always when I have written of Oliver’s work in the past, there is nothing short of intrigue and delighted surprise, he stepped out beyond boundaries to explore hither-to unknown territory, suspending us in the midst of stars and far-flung Nebulae.
I am in perpetual admiration and cannot help but be captivated by those creators such as Oliver, who tread surely upon their own path by design, he is an innovator and a true creator, at the vanguard of authentic Perfumery in the 21st century.
Based in Madrid, Spain and selling only through his website, even here Oliver Valverde breaks the mold and does it his own way. I am drawn to write of those Perfumers and Perfumes that step beyond convention, only devoted to write about those that touch who I am. Oliver Valverde, Nebula Series fits this perfectly.
Veils are essentially that which is revealed over time, at appropriate moments in life, and necessarily hidden in part from the exposure of total revelation, Oliver Valverde, Veil is the essence of the enigma when we contemplate the stars and observe pictures of these Nebula through telescopic vision, are we not entranced and captured in a fascination so ancient. Man has always been obsessed with the heavenly landscape and the Nebulae draw us further with inspiring visual images of swirling gases and exuberant primordial colours. Veil Nebula is of its namesake and not easily seen, but when it is , it is of astonishing depth and brilliance with a delicacy in its form.
His synaesthesic exercise intrigues me as he translates the nature and essence of these far- flung entities, wrought with natural forces into a white lacquered flacon. The given list of notes reads like a spectacular melange of apparent contradictions.
Veil is a veritable explosion on the skin, lemons and citrus pungent with oils, sharp and vibrant, they lay a path of clear, transparency to unexplained universes. I wander awestruck with eyes to the skies of my flesh engulfed in this expansive and eccentric scent, as if extending myself with my arms wide open to await in suspended moments the drawing back of the concealment of layers. ‘Revelation’ is the potent word that rises in me as the fragrance discloses itself, molecule by molecule, at times with a force and tenacity and at others with delicate, silent grandeur that leaves me breathless again.
Within me, there is an invocation to reach for the skies, to merge and blend, my essential fabric of elements beckoned into its matter of origin. Veil progresses in its layered expression, the detonation of Geranium, softened with Iris and with a Lavender definite, yet unobtrusive, a tender Rose and a splashes of violet. It transfixes me with a display akin to floral fireworks, one after the other, layered over each other in a beautiful palette of hues on the skin.
Threads of minerality are effervescent at the edges throughout, the aroma of atoms, molecules and elements of primal creation, possessing a phosphorescent quality that is left long after an ignition. These are the aspects that activate my curiosity further, unusual and inquisitive scents that stretch out beyond the confines of conventional perfumery, herein is Oliver’s trademark signature.
