A Pathway Untrod ‘Lost In The Desert’ -Memoirs of a Perfume Collector 2021
A certain longing has always existed within the Occidental blood for the unfamiliar discoveries that lie in wait for the explorer. The ‘Grand Tour’ of ages past, imparting knowledge of both other cultures and the self. In our current climate we are a inhibited in regards to physical travel, yet here in olfactory form we are invited to voyage without constraint.
‘Look to the Rose that blows us — ‘Lo, Laughing’, she says ‘into the World I blow:
At once the silken Tassel of my purse
Tear, and its treasure on the garden throw.’
With them the seed of Wisdom did I sow,
and with my own hand labour’d it to grow:
And this was all the Harvest that I reap’d —
I came like Water and like Wind I go’.
Omar Khayyam.
To be Lost, once we conquer fear of the unknown is to marvel in wonder, to feel instincts and body alive in trembling anticipation…… Oftentimes one must be lost to find what is waiting for us, climb that next mountain top that rises before us just in view, round the corner in an unknown village or town to discover what awaits us, run as fast as we can to the top of the hill to view what’s on the other side, amble slowly through a forest indulging in every sensation or turn the page of a time worn book , thumbed by many yet each discovering a different vista, imaginations enflamed and possibilities encountered.
Lost in the Desert from Memoirs of a Perfume Collector conjures not only a sense of place, as I have experienced standing under the infinity of a desert sky with sand dunes echoing into a never-ending horizon, but it is the experience and enrichment of soul that fulfills our curiosity in finding ourselves in the unknown. It tinges me with the flaming hues of discovery and throws light into all my darkened crevices.
To be lost is to surrender , to wander, to explore, to find oneself lost , one must let go, to loosen the grip on the known reality, to abandon the mediocre for infinite possibility.
Do you aspire to mediocrity
or do you shed your skin, ever sharpening your blade, honing it always to perfection?
Walking its pristine edge with precision, dexterity and ebullient passion.
Do you chase the mundane or soar with wings of fire?

Lost in the desert is an unexplored terrain, written in the interwoven strands of its components, Bergamot and jasmine are swathed in the almost decadent, creaminess of its vanilla duo. This is the invitation to explore, yet also gifts us with a sure and sound knowledge that in every new sensation encountered we are asked to reach out further… It is a richly endowed concoction that is both sensual and comforting. Its vanilla aspect delights me with its combination of both Vanilla Pompona and Bourbon Vanilla, sensations of a decadent cloaking.
I am as a neophyte standing on the threshold of a thousand mysteries to be revealed, a myriad of secrets reserved for my eyes only, except they are to be imparted on flesh, sinuous velveteen strands to caress me, each whispering unuttered spells from other ages. Incantations of time-shrouded dust, each particle arising from my skin with newly unveiled eyes. Written large in this liquid dreaming is a dare, dare to step beyond perceived comfort to embrace the sensuous filaments of invitation, the seduction of newly discovered flesh, each footstep on an unexplored territory, each fingers- brush on the unknown contours of a lovers body, uncovering in their rippling wake, a legend of feelings intoned, previously unknown. To be lost is to find the cached dimensions of self, to extend, to soar unfettered.

Its Jasmin is soft and sensual, a thousand star-like flowers laid on a perfumed mantle of white linen, a myriad stars in a firmament without end…. Myrrh and Frankincense always present conferring their sacred attributes upon this voyage of discovery, this ritual of abandonment to ways unfamiliar.
Lost in the Desert is a invitation to travel, for travel we must whether it be to a culture different to our own or within the inner richness of the imagination, to voyage is written on the parchment of our humanity. Place your hand in the proffered palm and fly…..
